Dementia Iceland

Dementia Iceland offers counselling to people with dementia, their families, and others.

Advice and Support for All

Dementia-related illnesses have a profound impact on family life. Roles change, and the nature of relationships often becomes different. People living with dementia and their family members therefore frequently need counseling, guidance, and support.

Appointments for counseling can be made by calling 520 1082, emailing radgjafi@heilahjalp.is, or by completing the contact form on the association’s website. Counseling is provided free of charge to everyone.

Counseling sessions can take place at the association’s office in Hafnarfjörður, via video conference, or by telephone, ensuring that everyone can access the service regardless of where they live.

It does not matter where an individual or family is in the process when requesting an appointment. Professionals, as well as anyone who simply wishes to learn more about the subject, can also receive counseling.

Dementia Iceland Website

The association’s website, heilahjalp.is, provides information related to dementia, including details about the diagnostic process and various educational resources.

Educational Programs Offered by the Association

The association regularly organizes educational meetings on dementia-related topics at the Lífsgæðasetrið (Quality of Life Center) in Hafnarfjörður. Those who are unable to attend in person can watch recordings on heilahjalp.is, where all educational events are also advertised on the events page.

Support Groups

Support groups are intended for family members and caregivers and are based on the principles of peer support. The aim of these gatherings is to meet, talk, and share experiences. Support from others in similar situations can improve well-being and reduce stress. More information about meeting times can be found on heilahjalp.is.

Psychological Services

People diagnosed with dementia and their family members may experience a range of emotions. It can be beneficial to discuss these feelings with a professional and receive support in identifying and making use of personal strengths while adapting to new circumstances.

Members of the association can book an appointment with a psychologist by calling 533 1088 or by emailing heilahjalp@heilahjalp.is. The fee for the consultation is ISK 5,000.
