Alzheimer Iceland
Alzheimer Iceland offers counselling to people with dementia, their families, and others.

Advice and Support for All
Dementia has a profound impact on family life. Roles change, and the nature of relationships often shifts. People living with dementia, as well as their loved ones, therefore frequently need advice, guidance and support.
Appointments for counselling can be booked by calling 520 1082, by sending an email to radgjafi@alzheimer.is, or by completing a form on the organisation’s website. The service is free of charge for everyone.
Counselling sessions take place at the organisation’s office in Hafnarfjörður, via video call, or over the telephone, ensuring that everyone can access the service regardless of where they live.
It does not matter at what stage of the condition an individual or family may be when booking an appointment. Professionals, as well as anyone simply wishing to learn more about the subject, are also welcome to seek advice.
Alzheimer Iceland Website
The organisation’s website, alzheimer.is, provides a wide range of information relating to dementia, including details about the diagnostic process and educational resources.
Educational Activities
The organisation regularly hosts educational meetings on topics related to dementia at the Lífsgæðasetur in Hafnarfjörður. Those unable to attend in person can watch recordings on the website alzheimer.is, where all upcoming sessions are also advertised on the events page.
Support Groups
Support groups are intended for family members and are based on the principles of peer support. The aim of these gatherings is to meet, talk and share experiences. Support from others in similar situations can improve wellbeing and help reduce stress. Further information on meeting times can be found at alzheimer.is.
Psychological Support
A wide range of emotions may arise for individuals diagnosed with dementia and their loved ones. It can be helpful to discuss these feelings with a professional and receive support in identifying and drawing on personal strengths in new circumstances.
Members of Alzheimer Iceland can book an appointment with a psychologist by calling 533 1088 or by sending an email to alzheimer@alzheimer.is. The fee for a consultation is ISK 5,000.
